SKILLSUSA MEMBERS DESCRIBE CAREER PATHWAYS TO
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

On January 20, SkillsUSA members conducted lessons to fourth graders at Woodward Elementary School in Atlanta, on different career pathways offered at Cross Keys High School. In November as part of career awareness day, the fourth graders toured the career technology department here at Cross Keys High School. To further enhance what the fourth graders had learned at Cross Keys, SkillsUSA members planned lessons centered on each Career Pathway and also conducted engaging problem solving activities. Our goal was to present information that would increase the fourth graders awareness of career and technical education

The lessons covered what the pathway involved, career training and different jobs in each pathway. Each lesson ended with a problem-solving activity. Fourth graders were excited to learn more about the pathways and were eager to ask more questions. The fourth graders were excited during the problem solving activity and asked that we come back again. Manuel Garcia, manufacturing student, stated “this is an awesome activity and I look forward to doing this again”. Kelvin Gonzalez, stated, “Learning is fun, especially when you are leading the learning experience.” Pathways represented were Manufacturing, Automotive Services, Construction, Esthetics Services and Information Technology.
