Cross Keys participates in the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership S.T.E.A.M Race Challenge
The SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference was held in Jekyll Island. The STEAM Race Challenge, sponsored by the Transportation Education Foundation of Georgia, is an opportunity for SkillsUSA members to showcase their Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics skills at the Fall Leadership Conference. Through the creation and development of a derby style car, members used their S.T.E.A.M knowledge, problem solving and teamwork skills to race against one another for the coveted title of STEAM Race Challenge Winner. Cross Keys members participated in the second annual Race Challenge by constructing and designing a finished car that fit inside a rectangle that is 24” wide x 60” long. Angel Leon stated, “This is the highlight of the conference for me”. The chapter chose Monserat Ordono as the driver and Mario Guillen as their pusher. Mario, who has completed the Transportation career pathway and is now enrolled in the Construction pathway, stated: “Being a member of SkillsUSA and using my skills is awesome”. The pit crew involved: Khalil Thomas, Angel Leon, Guadalupe Torres, Delia Mendez and Daniela Ramirez. Cross Keys received the Best Graphics Award.
