Welcome to the 2020-2021 academic school year!
As you can imagine, this will be a unique and possibly challenging school year because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. To make this a successful school year, it is important we work together with students, parents, and industry partners. DeKalb High School of Technology North (DHST-N) teachers are committed in providing the best possible virtual learning experience by being patient, flexible, and creative in meeting the needs of our students.
The courses offered first semester at DHST-N at Cross Keys High School are foundational and designed to cover the following topics: safety, employability skills, professional communication skills and practices, ethical and legal issues, and hands on projects to demonstrate the skills required by business and industry. Students can use their Smartphones or computers to complete most of their assignments.
Second semester courses are primarily performance-based. At this time, it is too early to predict if we will be virtual second semester. DeKalb County School District will make this decision based on the CDC guidelines and updates. However, all teachers are expected to cover the state standards. The teachers use online software specifically designed for their courses. In addition, the software package includes lab activities that simulate on the job training.
Hopefully, I addressed most of your questions and concerns. I am passionate and devoted in making this a great and enjoyable virtual learning experience for the students. Please feel free to email me if you have any additional questions or concerns. Together, we can overcome the challenges of virtual learning by being patient and flexible.
